Kitchen Magic, Inc. Family Assistance on Home Delivery

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J., October 14, 2004 -- Kitchen Magic, Inc. of Phillipsburg, NJ recently participated in a particularly meaningful kitchen remodeling project. Home Delivery, the new NBC TV program contacted Kitchen Magic with the story of the Burgess family in Hamden CT.

One day in 2001 Lori Burgess, an administrator with the New Haven, CT office of the Visiting Nurse Association stopped in at her local deli for a sandwich and was surprised to see that Felix, the friendly deli man who was always a bright spot in his customers' days was silent. From the look on his face Lori knew something serious was bothering him. He told Lori, "They told me I have Lou Gehrig's disease and I've got three to five years to live."Felix had never let on the pressures of raising his children as a single father. And on this day his thoughts were not of himself--his biggest fear was, "What will happen to my children?" His four children had already been abandoned by their mother, and now were going to lose their father.

Lori Burgess and her husband David have three children of their own. But that night Lori spoke with her husband and together they decided that they would take in Felix's children. The next day, Felix couldn't grasp what Lori Burgess was saying. She was offering his children a home? She even found a neighbor to take in the fourth, special needs child so the family would not be totally separated. This act of kindness was the miracle that Felix was looking for.

"If you have enough love in your heart, you can always make room for more," said Lori."But I hate my kitchen. It's awful--it is actually falling apart."

Lori cooks a lot and it is very hard in the kitchen we have now" David added. "And I'm hearing it every time she makes a meal."

New cabinetry and countertops (along with new appliances, flooring and lighting donated by other local companies) were all installed while the Burgess family took a little vacation for a few days.

Kitchen Magic's VP of Marketing, Renate Fleck said, "I don't know how Lori cooked in the kitchen she had.It was wonderful to see how delighted Lori and the whole Burgess family were when they saw their new kitchen. Lori just couldn't believe her eyes."

The new NBS show, Home Delivery, makes wishes come true for remarkable individuals or families who have special needs-described as a sort of hybrid between Dr. Phil and Trading Spaces.

Kitchen Magic is a family owned and operated company kitchen refacing and custom cabinetry company, celebrating its 25th anniversary in business. Kitchen Magic President, Brett Bacho added, "We had two days notice before the kitchen had to be installed and the entire remodel took place in less just two days. A lot of people pulled together to make that happen. We were all happy to have the opportunity to work on this project, knowing that it would make such a difference in the everyday life of this family. They certainly deserve it."
